Deploy MailCraft to your computers
Every release is on the download page and on GitHub, with checksums.
Which file
Section titled “Which file”| System | Supported | Files |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 and 11: x64, x86, Arm64 | .msi installer, or a portable .zip |
| macOS | macOS 11 or later: Apple silicon and Intel | .dmg |
| Linux | x86_64 and aarch64, glibc 2.35 or later | .AppImage, .deb, .rpm, Flatpak, .tar.gz |
| FreeBSD | FreeBSD 15, x86_64 | .tar.gz |
Files are named mailcraft-<version>-<system>-<architecture>, for example mailcraft-0.5.0-windows-x64.msi.
Check a download
Section titled “Check a download”Each release has SHA256SUMS.txt, its signature SHA256SUMS.txt.sig, and a GitHub build attestation. With the GitHub CLI you can check that a file was built from the MailCraft repository:
gh attestation verify mailcraft-0.5.0-windows-x64.msi --repo UCS-Care-Group/mailcraftWindows: the MSI
Section titled “Windows: the MSI”The MSI installs for every user of the computer, into Program Files\MailCraft, with a Start menu shortcut. It offers MailCraft for mailto: links and .eml, .ics and .vcf files without taking them over.
Install silently:
msiexec /i mailcraft-0.5.0-windows-x64.msi /qnInstall silently with automatic updates turned off by policy:
msiexec /i mailcraft-0.5.0-windows-x64.msi /qn DISABLEAUTOMATICUPDATES=1Uninstall from Settings › Apps › Installed apps, or with msiexec /x and the same file. Uninstalling leaves each person’s mailbox in their own folder (see Data and security).
Automatic updates
Section titled “Automatic updates”MailCraft asks each person before it checks for new versions. If they agree, it asks GitHub once a day. Copies installed from the MSI, the macOS app or an AppImage can then update themselves. Other packages only show a notice.
To turn updates off for the whole computer:
| System | Policy |
|---|---|
| Windows | Registry value HKLM\Software\Policies\MailCraft\DisableAutomaticUpdates (DWORD, not 0). Set it by Group Policy, Intune, or the MSI property above. |
| macOS | Create the file /Library/Application Support/MailCraft/no-automatic-updates |
| Linux, FreeBSD | Create the file /etc/mailcraft/no-automatic-updates |
File › Options then shows Turned off by your organisation. Deploy new versions yourself instead.
What isn’t there yet
Section titled “What isn’t there yet”There are no ADMX templates or macOS configuration profiles, and no other settings can be preset by policy. Managed deployment is planned for MailCraft for Business. Tell us what you need.
