The basics
If you’ve used classic Outlook, most of MailCraft is where you’d expect it.
Search
Section titled “Search”Type in the search box at the top (Ctrl+E, or ⌘E on a Mac). Search matches the start of words and ignores capitals and accents. Add these to narrow it down:
| Type | To find |
|---|---|
from:ada |
Mail from someone |
to:, cc: |
Mail to someone |
subject:budget, body:invoice |
Words in the subject or the text |
has:attachment, attachment:report |
Mail with attachments, or an attachment’s file name |
is:unread, is:read, is:flagged, is:important |
Mail by its state |
importance:high |
high, normal or low |
category:red |
Mail in a category |
after:2026-10-01, before:, on: |
Mail by date |
"exact phrase" |
Words together |
-draft |
Leave out mail with that word |
For example: budget from:ada has:attachment after:2026-10-01 is:unread.
Flags, categories and pins
Section titled “Flags, categories and pins”On the Home tab, under Tags:
- Follow Up flags a message, with a due date if you like.
- Categorize gives a message a colour category. All Categories lets you add, rename and delete them.
- Pin keeps a message at the top of the list.
Rules sort mail as it arrives. On the Home tab, under Move, choose Create Rule or Manage Rules. A rule can look at who it’s from or to, the subject, the text, attachments and importance, and can move, categorise, flag, mark as read, set importance or delete. To run your rules on mail you already have, choose Folder › Clean Up › Run Rules Now.
The calendar
Section titled “The calendar”Switch to the calendar with Ctrl+2. Click or drag over empty time and type to make an appointment. Drag it to move it, drag its edge to change its length, and hold Ctrl while dragging to copy it. Double-click to open it in its own window, with recurrence, reminders and the Scheduling Assistant.
Working hours, the first day of the week, the clock and time zones are in File › Options › Calendar.
